Orange Quick Bread ~ Recipe

I usually make this bread using lemons, but the navel oranges looked so good at the market today!  It is a delicious quick bread with a sugar and orange coating ~ not much can be better than that!

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter; softened
2 eggs
Grated rind of one orange
1/2 cup milk (I used buttermilk)
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons orange juice

Directions:
Cream 1 cup of sugar and butter.  Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy.  Add orange rind, flour (all at once); beat well.

Add milk, baking powder, and salt.  Blend.
Pour into a greased loaf pan.

Bake for 55 minutes until it is lightly brown on top.
While the bread is cooking, prepare the topping:  1/2 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons orange juice.

Spoon the orange and sugar over the bread immediately after taking from the oven.  Loosen the sides so it drips down.

Cool in pan for 15 minutes.

Remove and allow to sit for 5 hours before cutting.

Enjoy!
