Apple Crisp with a Cinnamon Streusel Topping

The apples at the Farmer's Market were too good to pass up on Saturday ~ and the thought of my kitchen smelling of cinnamon ~ just too much to resist!

I called this recipe Apple Crisp, but my husband (after eating a good size piece) mentioned that the topping was not exactly crisp-y.  It was delicious, but the topping had more of a streusel texture.  Oh, and did I mention the smell of the cinnamon.......?

Ingredients:
5 large baking apples (Granny Smith, Cortland, Golden Delicious)
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons lemon juice
3/4 cup flour
pinch of salt
6 tablespoons butter
whipped cream or ice cream

Directions:
Peel, core, and slice the apples in a bowl.

Forgot I had this apple corer!

Add 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and lemon juice.

Mix lightly and pour into a buttered pie dish.

Blend remaining sugar, flour, salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and butter to a crumbly consistency

Sprinkle over apple mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and topping is lightly browned.

Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

Enjoy!
