Turn a Calendar into Wall Art

We had a great Christmas this year.  It was a one full of firsts..our first Christmas in our new home, Hadley's first Christmas, the first Christmas Layla opened all of her gifts (and everyone else's) herself and the first time I made a good Christmas list for myself. Instead of asking for basics, this year I decided to only ask for things I wouldn't normally buy for myself and Scott did a great job of following it!

One of the things on my list was this beautiful Cavallini Bird Calendar.  I'm sure when Scott saw that he thought it was pretty random; little did he know that I had no interest in the calendar part but the colorful watercolor bird prints I had big plans for.

At 13" x 19" this calendar was big and beautiful!

As you might remember from this post our dining room was almost complete except for the two stark, naked walls that stared at me every day begging for some love.   So after browsing a few blogs and Pinterest for some inspiration I decided that some bold vintage-like bird or botanical prints would look great in matted frames against the blue/gray (Benjamin Moore's Moonshine) walls.

Already had these off white Pottery Barn frames.

Each bird print need to to be trimmed a bit so that it would fit in the frame, but other than that it was pretty easy to get them in the frames and up on the wall.

Now that these are up the dining room gives off a whimsical/formal vibe.  I know that's an oxymoron but it's the best way I can describe it!

Love the bright colors against the muted wall.

Calendars are a great inexpensive art option.
$21 for the calendar is less than $2 print!

I also hung a few things on the other wall too - saving those photos for next week!

  1. I love the bird prints! I've used calendar pictures for the wall before. It's such an inexpensive way to decorate!

  2. What a wonderful idea. I have had several calendars in the past that I should have done this with. Gorgeous artwork!
