Dining Room Complete!

Last week I showed you a few updates to the dining room here and here.  And as promised today I am sharing photos of the second (previously bare) wall now fully decorated making the dining room officially complete - at least for now.

To accomplish this I used another Pottery Barn frame with matte and a large multi photo Pottery Barn frame that I had completely forgotten I even had.  These along with two shabby tin ceiling tiles, a wallpaper sample and a few magazine cut out butterflies brought the wall to life.  Whoa that was a lot of stuff let me explain...

I didn't want the walls to be too matchy-matchy so I chose not to hang any of the calendar bird prints on the second wall. Instead I stayed with the nature theme and bold pops of color.

The ceiling tiles are one of the best purchases I ever made.  I bought three of them in the clearance section of Joann Fabrics about ten years ago.  For $.75 each!  They all have very subtle details and are worn in all the right places.  I had put them away when we moved in because I didn't think they would fit with the modern aesthetic I was hoping to accomplish in our new home but they ended up looking pretty good in the dining room and balancing out all the color around them.

This multi photo frame was buried in a pile of other unused frames in our basement.   I knew I needed another matching frame to round out the wall and even thought I didn't love all of those squares I thought maybe I could cut the matte to make one big matte...or something.  But knowing that would probably end in disaster since my cutting skills aren't the best I tried to think of what I could put in those little squares that would look pretty.  I remembered these little beauties that I made two years ago to cover the back of our ugly, never used gas fireplace.  I got so sick of staring at the discolored wall behind the big candles I put in fireplace that I decided to simply cover it.  And since Layla loved butterflies I decided to trace the shape of a butterfly onto visually interesting images in Anthropologie catalogs.

This photo is actually from when we listed our house.  Can you see the butterflies?

Lastly I choose another piece of wallpaper from my vast collection of samples and thought this magnolia one would be perfect since we have a huge magnolia tree in the backyard and the colors played off the ones in the butterflies.

Oh and I can't forget to mention the beautiful magnolia leaf perched on the wallpaper sample frame.  My lovely Layla always brings me something when she goes outside to play with Scott and the day I finished this wall she came in with this shiny green leaf.  Wasn't planned but looks perfect there!

So there you have it - the completed wall.  I'm so happy with how it turned out! Pin It

Oooh, I love the birds! Which makes me think of that "put a bird on it" song, but I don't dare! I love birds!
