A Whale of a Tissue Holder

You all know about my new obsession with Olioboard, which means I have been making mood boards for each room in our house - well each room that still needs some design help.  My latest one was for the girls' bathroom. One of the things I wanted to add was a whale tissue holder (of course) since we already have a few whale things in the tub - a bath toy holder and faucet cover.

The one I have seen online is $40 and I didn't want to spend that much so I decided to see if could make one myself. After a quick trip to Michael's I came back with a few items to make one for less than $5.00.  Now I want to note that the $40 one I have seen everywhere is handcrafted and one of a kind.  I don't want to even compare my little DIY project to the hard work that went into making that one.  Ok I feel better.

An unfinished wood tissue holder ($1.99), Martha Stewart craft paint in Pool ($1.99) and a wood whale craft set ($1.00).

The whale lost his tail and the box and tail both got three coats of paint.
I used a black Sharpie to draw the mouth and eye.

I sanded the tail down to make it flush with the side of the box and then attached it some hot glue.

I love how it turned out and he looks adorable in their bathroom!

Very cute! I love it when you can make something you've seen for less. It's so inspiring.
