Embroidery Thread Organization

I am on an kick to organize my sewing supplies!  Last week I posted my thread/bobbin configuration; today is my embroidery/crewel yarn.

In the past I have put my floss into individual envelopes and labeled each with its number.

Yes, I could find the one I needed easily, but sometimes it took a while to untangle the thread.
The perfect solution for both organization and neatness was to use craft clothes pins.

I rolled the yarn around the pin and tucked in the end.

I wrote the number on the end using a pencil ~ in case I need to erase and reuse.

Now all of the thread I need for a project is accessible and portable.

Craft Room Wall Decor

As I mentioned before the wall above my craft area was empty.  And since I send so much time at my sewing machine, it needed decorating!  It was important to me to use items I made or items that were made especially for me.

My choices:

Two samplers that I had stitched many years ago
The sweet needlepoint dress I mentioned here
My Simplicity patterns
A map of NJ with a "heart" on the city where we live made by Kendra
And, lastly, a pretty swirled tree that picks up all of the colors in the room

Before I hung any of them, I made outlines of each frame on paper.  I even marked the nail holes.

Using painter's tape I arranged the paper collection on the wall. 

I could rearrange to my heart's content!

Now I have a view that just makes me happy!

Needlepoint Dress Canvas

Last week I shared my ideas for the wall above my craft area ~ the place I am planning to arrange many of the pieces I have created.
Well, I finally finished my adorable needlepoint daisy dress, which could well be my focal point.  It still needs to be professionally framed, but I thought it was too cute not to post today.

 

 

 

I used Vineyard Silk thread, and I loved it.  It was so soft and pliable.  The colors I selected were orange burst, calypso orange, lemon drop, and bright white.

The designs are from a collection by Melissa Shirley. There is a wide range of hand painted canvases, but I think the dress collection is my absolute favorite.  Here are a few that I love~

Bird Cage Embroidery Canvas

I decided that the area above my craft/sewing work place should be a collection of handmade pieces.
The only problem is that it is slow going since I now have to create each one.

The room is turquoise with pops of yellow and brown, so I want to make sure that those colors are included.

My latest embroidered project is a cute birdhouse with a turquoise bird.  I used a yellow fabric background fabric, and the completed project was stapled onto a canvas.

I love the swirls in the cage ~ seems to add a little whimsy.



I think that the colors and style perfectly coordinates with the embroidered tree that I posted earlier.

Now I am working on a needlepoint dress to add; hopefully, I will be able to show its completion soon!

Embroidery Projects

Since I am not an artist, embroidery is my creative outlet.  I can start out with a blank canvas ~ for my a piece of fabric ~ and watch as the colors develop into a finished product. 

Today I thought I would share two recently completed projects.

I love changing the thread colors and sometimes the stitch.

And, if it doesn't work the first time, I can easily get out my handy seam ripper and start again.

So easy to add just a small pop of bright color!

I guess there could be a little artist in all of us!  ♥

Found Friday - Hand Embroidery

Today I thought I would share some hand embroidery ideas that I have found.  Back in February I created a "wishlist of fun stuff."  One of the items I listed was the embroidery pattern of "The Princess and the Pea"  that I purchased from Follow the White Bunny.  It was sent to me almost immediately in a pdf format, and I couldn't wait to get started.

My finished product ~

As part of the file, Nicole sent not one but two different ideas for completing the project. 
I did change some of the colors and a few of the stitches, and I love the way it turned out!

For thread I used Appleton which I had also used on the samplers that I made for my granddaughter and grandson.  I find that it fills in an area much better than DMC.

My next project is a needlepoint dress ~ more about that later (:
