New Ideas for American Girl Doll

Time to makes some new outfits for my granddaughters'  American Girl dolls!
I sometimes like to combine patterns to create a new design ~ a dress from here and a bib from here...

Once the "shortie" dress was complete, I decided that it needed fun capri pants.  I found a "free" pattern and shortened the length, and the new outfit was ready!

This time I stayed with the original pattern.  My little Amelia said that her Bitty Baby need a new dress with a bonnet.  Hope she likes the results!

And one more from marlindacreations ~ I love hot pink combined with almost any fabric.  This time it was with lime green!

Additional pictures can be found here.

Metallic Star PIllows ~ Free Pattern

On Tuesday, Kendra posted photos of her newly redesigned playroom ~ a truly happy place for my granddaughters.  It's their world of dress up, make believe, and magic.  I wanted to add a little contribution ~ "the little twinkle, twinkle little star."

In a prior post I mentioned one of my favorite on-line fabric stores is Hawthorne Threads.  One morning while browsing the newsletter that they send out each week, I saw this beautiful collection of metallic fabrics from Jacqueline Savage Mcfee's collection "Heavy Metals."

Just two of the available prints

Just perfect for a star pillow ~ and the pattern was free!  The instructions were simple to follow, and the metallic fabric made it twinkle.

In this room where the girls can be a princess, a chef, a construction worker...., they now have a little star "to wish upon"!  ♥

Sewing Patterns for an American Girl Doll

Wow ~ it is frigid here in the Northeast!!!! Perfect time to stay warm indoors and sew!
For Christmas we gave Layla an American Girl doll ~ matching her eye and hair color perfectly.

But when I took a look at the price for the clothing, I was astonished ~ $40.00 for a dress??!!

That is when I decided to take on the task of fashion coordinator and loved the results (think Layla did too)!

And to make it even better, some of the patterns were FREE on-line!

Dress #1 ~ my variation of Simplicity JO436 (at Joann's the patterns were on sale)

Dress #2 ~  Free pattern from http://agplaythings.com/AG%20Patterns/DollDressPatterns.html

The last two are from Simplicity #1443

Here are a couple additional links to additional free on-line patterns that I plan to make:

Crocodiles ~ DIY ~ Free Pattern

I am hearing so much about the new season of "Shark Week," but for me it is Crocodile Time ~ Tick Tock Crock to be exact!
This pattern is free from Sew4Home ~ one of my favorite blogs.  I have to admit that I started the softies back in March, then put them aside, and recently pulled them out to finish.

While the pattern was extremely easy to follow, the plush fabric did require some adjusting (and more than a few uses of the seam ripper)!!

After asking my granddaughter their favorite colors, I selected aqua and lime green minky fabrics.  (Reminder to self ~ always use the same color for both girls!)

Stitching from the back...

...and from the front...

button eyes added...

...and then the stuffing (got to catch up on a few television show while doing this!)

...and my crocks were finished...

The process did take some time, but the results were well worth it.

Enjoy!  ♥

Found Friday - Fabric Dolls Patterns

Happy Friday!  When my first grandchild was born, I decided that I wanted to make a keepsake for her.  It began with a needlepoint Christmas stocking.  Well, now I have four beautiful grandkids, and my "keepsakes" have grown.  In addition to the stockings, I have made a sampler (Hadley's is still in process) and a fabric doll for each (Amelia's is still in planning mode).

Today I thought I would share the patterns and the final product for the dolls.  So much fun when you can use your own creativity to make each one special.

Hadley's doll sitting on the cute washi tape stool Kendra made.

and Cole's Cool boy!

The patterns were pdf downloads from Etsy.    The girl doll is available here, and the boy doll is available here.  I would love to see your creations!

Have a wonderful weekend!  ♥
