Bold Boy Nursery Design Board

Hi there and happy Tuesday!!  If you have been on this blog for any length of time you know I love creating design boards...I have even parlayed my little "hobby" into a very fulfilling little business.  So when my sweet friend Katie, who is expecting her first baby this Spring, asked me for a little help coming up with some ideas for her nursery I was super excited to get started.

Katie had started a Pinboard so it was easy to see what she what inspired her and the overall feel she wanted this special room to have.  Pops of color, modern with natural elements mixed in to keep the space warm and cozy!

Below is the design board I came up with using Katie first choice of paint color, Benjamin Moore's Navy Hale - which I think will look amazing in this small space.  All of the other room elements will be bright and colorful so the room won't feel dark at all.  So excited to see the finished room and to meet her little boy!!

Easy Shelf Makeover + An Organized Closet

Hello there!  My little Hadley has the smallest bedroom and with that comes a pretty teeny closet.   When I started hanging her clothes - shirts and pants - I realized that they were getting pretty crammed together in there and that there was a lot of wasted space from the floor up. 

After my sister moved she left us with a bunch of random furniture that she either couldn't fit or didn't want anymore and the shelf below fell into the latter category.  At first, I wasn't sure we could use it either but after another day of struggling with what to do with Hadley's closet it clicked - unwanted shelving = extra storage = better organization = happy Mama!

 

Meh..

 

 

The shelf was perfect except that it was a little plain.  Initially, I planned to paint it but then I remembered I had a roll of pretty wrapping paper (from the dollar section at Target) that I had been wanting to use. 

 

I covered the top and then just lined the back and all the shelves with one continuous piece.

Now I keep all her pants folded on the shelves.  Shirts are hung up on the right and dresses and skirts on the left.  I also now have a spot for her shoes on top of the shelf.  I just turned a "diaper caddy" on its side and the little shelves are the perfect size for holding shoes that don't fit her yet.

Hadley's Cloudy with a Chance of Pretty Nursery

Happy Tuesday!  As I mentioned here, Hadley's nursery has been an ongoing project for me. When I started it I had hoped not to make it too similar to Layla's nursery but the color of the walls are basically the same bright blue and kept bringing me back to the sky.

Her room is about half the size of Layla's room so I wanted to make sure it was bright and colorful to make up for that.  The mix of patterns helped a lot too.

All the furniture in her room was Layla's with the exception of the bookshelf, which used to be dark brown and was being stored in our basement. I had an epiphany one day and measured it and happily discovered it was the perfect fit for this weird little nook in her room.

Color Full!

The LOVE print was one of the first pink purchases I made when I was pregnant with Layla - a few days after I found out we were having a girl.  The custom elephant artwork was a gift for Hadley from my sister, Lori.  She actually had it in a really nice black frame but I decided to take it out and border it with washi tape and put it directly onto the wall making it little less formal but still really cute! 

The cover of the Land of Nod Spring catalog had a hot air balloon print that matched the room's colors, so I just stuck that in a pink frame and covered the words "Land of Nod" at the top with a few cut out paper clouds.

It took about a million five coats of white paint to fully cover the dark wood.  Since the back was open I covered it with fabric that coordinated with the curtains to brighten up this corner.

The bookshelf holds her growing book collection, a few toys, a family of owls I found at a yard sale last summer, her yarn letter and custom made pillows that I bought on Etsy.  So glad I found a spot for them, someday they'll move to her big girl bed.
  

I love how simple and happy this "art" looks over her crib.

 Above, is a canvas I covered with Sarah Jane fabric.  I wasn't sure how it would turn out but it's pretty much the way I hoped! There was a lot of white space above the parade in the print so threaded some poms onto white thread and attached cut out letters that I covered in sparkly blue glitter.

Balloons!

I also mentioned here that I had wanted to fill the "sky" with balloons and I think I accomplished that.  But when the embroidery hoops were up it just looked like something was missing.  So I decided to add a few balloon riders.  I was inspired not only by the print but this quirky project I saw a few weeks ago.

Layla has decided that this is me:)

This little chair (a gift from Uncle Billy and Aunt Emily) is where I take Hadley's monthly photo, just like I did with Layla.

I was lucky enough to score the above abstract painting by two young up-and-coming artists before they start charging a fortune for their work.

And lastly the little cutie I did all this for, Hadley.  She loves looking around and taking in all the new things that have popped up in her room lately.

Nursery Sneak Peek

I mentioned here that Hadley's nursery is almost complete.  So I thought I would share a few photos of my progress in the hopes that everything (bookshelf, mirror and other wall art) will be in place by early next week.

Layla's Treetop Nursery

The photo above is one of my favorite of Layla's nursery.  I loved every minute of designing it and Scott and I did everything ourselves to make it a special place for her. 

She is our first - little sister Hadley joined our family in May - so we wanted everything to be perfect for her.  Now that we are in a new house and she has a much bigger room I'm in the process of designing her big girl room - you can see my inspiration board here.  That has been a lot of fun too - looking forward to getting her new furniture and moving the full bed from our guest room into her room so we can snuggle and read books in bed.
