Wreath Season by Season - Holiday 2013

So it's been a loooong time since I did one of these posts - but I recently made our holiday wreath and thought I would share.  I decided this time around to try using some natural greenery (i.e. magnolia leaves) to spruce up the front door.  I stuck with the same base (yarn-covered foam wreath form) and just tucked the stems of the leaves under the wrapped yarn - surprisingly they stay in place pretty easily!  I added the white flower (artificial) because the leaves looked a bit flat and then added the red ribbon after looking at the wreath from the street - it needed some color....

The inside window panes each have a paper snowflake hanging for a pretty view inside and out...that and I LOVE making them.

Hello Again!

Hi there and happy Monday!  So awhile ago a posted about the 'Hello' sign that I made to go in front of our house.  It started like this, then changes to this.  Well after a rain shower (or three) the moss began peeling off and did not look welcoming at all.  Time for another change.

 

On a recent trip to ReStore I stumbled upon this giant container full of individual brass nailhead trim. For $1!! I had lost of ideas for these like outlining the chairs in the kid's library or adding a little interest to plain frames. 

 



But then I remembered this sad little sign needed a little pick me up so I spent about an hour hammering in the nails around each letter.

So I guess this will do for now!  I'm sure there will be another version of the sign before the summer is over!

Blueberry Pickin Weekend

Hi there!  So we had been meaning to get to a local farm to do some blueberry picking for the last two weeks.  Finally the star aligned (two happy kids + two awake parents) and we made the 15 minute drive the Homestead Farm to fill up on big, warm, sweet blueberries.  I remember picking strawberries when I was younger and picking blueberries was much easier...the bushes were big so you didn't even have to bend over to find good ones!!

Layla loved picking almost as much as she loved sampling one (or five) berries....Hadley like it for about the first 5 minutes then she was ready to run.  So it was a good thing it only took us about 20 minutes to fill up all of our containers and head back (tractor ride!) to the farmer's market area and pick out some veggies and more fruit. 

 

 

We also stopped to see a few of the animals - the baby goat was the cutest and ate right out of Layla's hand! 

Our first box from our Summer to do list has been checked off!

A Wonderfully Watery Weekend

Hi There!  Scott recently bought the girls a pool to splash around in on our back deck.  Saying it has been a huge hit would be an understatement!  On Saturday, Layla and I had huge water fight (she pretty good with a water gun) while Scott was getting Hadley up from her nap.  Just the two of us out there laughing so hard my face hurt and getting soaked (me fully clothed) made me feel like a kid again was the most fun I've had in a while.  Sunday on the other hand was so gross and humid we were all moving like slugs so the girls spent almost 4 hours in and out of the pool and I got to sit under the umbrella and watch and make a craft or two.

Hadley got a little aggressive with one of our hydrangea bushes so we had lots of fallen flowers to play with.

Popsicles were much needed and after we were finished  I kinda fell in the love with the colors: )

This week is supposed to be even hotter than last so I'm sure we'll be outside in the pool and shade soon!

A Fun Father's Day Recap

Good Morning! We had an awesome weekend here at casa Damiecki filled with rocket balloons, bubbles and visiting family celebrating father's day together.  The aftermath, not so much fun though, catching up on all those neglected things like laundry and cleaning...borrring!  So I thought I would take a break from the mundane and share what the girls and I put together for Scott on his big day!

The tent (which is totally cozy) is currently taking over in our front living room - for now: )

For the past two months Layla has talked non-stop about camping. So I thought getting a tent, airbed and a few other camping necessities might motivate Scott to take her (and eventually Hadley) on a little outdoor adventure - even if it meant just starting on our deck!

Layla has a bunch of these nature booklets from Target's dollar section - they're easy for her to reference while exploring with binoculars!  The cute field journal, from Michaels, is where she'll be able to keep "notes" about all her findings and check off the animals tracks she encounters!





I found the telescope at a yard sale a few weeks ago ($5!) and the girls have been really excited to try it out.  My parents gave Scott few books about planets and space for Father's Day so he'll be able to teach them a little about the stars and constellations while they're using the telescope or laying in the tent looking up at the night sky.




 

Layla and Hadley love the great outdoors especially the treats that come with it...so the makings for smores was definitely on the top of their list!  So excited for the first camping experience and so is Layla!!

 

A good day for a great daddy!!

Goodbye Old Hello Sign

Hi! I recently shared a few photos of the progress we've made to the front our house and mentioned not being crazy about the Hello sign I made. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it until the girls and I were outside the other day and noticed all the soft, green moss that was growing in shady spots all around the porch area. I love how the moss that's growing between the stones in the pathway leading to our porch looks so I have been transplanting a little a time to get it to grow in other spots too. So I thought why not try it putting some moss (dried for now) over the the paint on the sign?

Outdoor Updates

Hello All! Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend...we had a chilly/rainy few days at the NJ shore followed by one 75 degree day filled with pool time, amusement park rides and ice cream!  

Before we left last week I was able to take a few shots of the ever-changing front porch.  I updated the wreath (finally), unexpectedly painted the floor (in two hours with both girls playing 10 ft from me the whole time) and make a little welcome sign (a leftover prop from Layla's bday party - this I'm not loving so much anymore) and we added two flowery hanging plants.  We still need to figure out what to do with the empty space left from removing the two huge bushes that flanked the porch - hostas? flowers? I'm just not sure - I need to do a little more research.

Our dogwood has lost most of it's petals to the mulch here looks super yucky!

Loving the hint of blue white on the floor of the porch.  I removed the rug since I didn't need to cover up anymore!

Switched out the coral yarn for bright white this time around and made the flower from leftover fabric from the curtains in Hadley's room.

Loving these!!

My little sign - the circle is the cutout from the sink counter in the girls' bathroom (that is taking me forever to finish) the yellow is the same as the door - the blue I'm just not feeling anymore - maybe the text should be black?
